Melting of helium at room temperature and high pressure.

J M Besson, J P Pinceaux.

Abstract

Helium has been solidified at room temperature. The melting pressure at 24 degrees C is 115 kilobars, in complete agreement with the Simon equation. An original apparatus was developed for this experiment, which allows loading of the cell at room temperature. Applications to various areas of research are suggested.
