[Endemic disease depression: appraisal and outlook].

Depressive disease is of increasing relevance in high income countries. This article summarises the current available specific knowledge about epidemiology, health-economic consequences and service provision for depression in Germany. Approaches for interventions to reduce the burden of depressive disease are presented and their potential discussed.
