Cholesteric Liquid Crystal-Like Structure of the Cuticle of Plusiotis gloriosa.

Abstract

The toroidal but parallel array of planes of unidirectionally oriented molecules believed to characterize cholesteric liquid crystals also gives rise to certain geometrical patterns. The reality of this structure is demonstrated by micrographic evidence.
