Terrestrial Heat Flow through Salt-Marsh Peat.

A C Redfield.

Abstract

Two measurements of the temperature gradient in salt-marsh peat made at an interval of (1/2) year permit the upward flow of heat to be estimated as 1.37 x 10(-6) cal cm(-2) sec(-1). This value corresponds closely to the average terrestrial heat flow, obtained in mines and wells.
