Benzene Complexes with Copper(II)montmorillonite.

H E Doner, M M Mortland.

Abstract

Benzene formed a stable coinplex through its pi electrons to the copper ion in copper(II)montmorillonite. Copper(II)was the only exchangeable metal cation in montmorillonite to form a complex with benzene. Only those clay minerals whose charge arises in the octahedral layer produced the complex.
