Abstract
Sternotomy is the most common osteotomy performed worldwide and has traditionally been closed by wire circlage. Recent studies have demonstrated the superiority of internal plate fixation both in promoting bony stability and osteosynthesis and in decreasing the incidence of postoperative mediastinitis. Despite its advantages, this method of sternal closure has not yet gained widespread use. We describe a simple technique of sternal closure using plates secured with screws.Entities:
