Abstract
Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent progenitor cells that can differentiate into the chondrogenic lineage. To date, only limited knowledge about the formation and remodeling of the cartilaginous extracellular matrix is available. We recently analyzed the coordinated expression of proteins involved in the biosynthesis of proteoglycans and collagens, the two major components of cartilage matrix, to understand matrix formation and to provide potential tools to improve the quality of tissue-engineered cartilage.Entities:
