It's no-show time! How leaders at one practice tackled the no-show problem--and how you can, too.

Kathleen Quinn1.

Abstract

Patients who fail to keep appointments without notice--"no-shows"--adversely affect patient access and clinical revenue. The medical center at the University of California-San Francisco saw no-shows take an estimated $7 million annually out of its revenue. Although the reasons and rates for no-shows vary greatly among medical practices, the approaches the author describes for this academic medical center can be applied in any practice setting.
