Abstract
Increasingly strong all-ceramic materials have been introduced often with great fanfare and promise for long-term clinical performance. However, especially on posterior teeth, performance has been less than anticipated. This article reviews failure rates and modes of all-ceramic crowns and addresses the question of whether material properties can accurately predict clinical survival. Guidelines for selecting new and existing ceramics are provided.Mesh:
