Abstract
This study analyzes the prevalence of work accidents among nursing staff in the HUB, occurred from July 2002 - July 2003, in order to dimensionate the magnitude of the problem and to propose preventive actions. It is an approach based on the qualitative method of the exploratory-description type. 68 Internal Communications of Work Accidents (CIATs) were identified. The manipulation of cutting and piercing material corresponds to the 62.38% of the activities that caused accidents. 52.94% of the accidents occurred in the morning. Of the professionals accidented, 76.47% are of the feminine sex. The category nursing auxiliary suffered 26.47% of the accidents. The Medical Clinic and the Centro de Pronto Atendimento (CPA) registered, each one, 11.76% of the accidents. The hands were the regions of the body more attacked, with 63.20% of the cases.Mesh:
