Abstract

PURPOSE: To report a case of proliferating trichilemmal cyst in a 55-year-old woman.
DESIGN: Observational case report.
METHODS: A 55-year-old woman sought treatment for a mass in the right upper eyelid. The lesion was excised twice previously, and recurred. The mass was reexcised and examined histopathologically.
RESULTS: Light microscopy showed a cystic lesion lined by stratified squamous epithelium with a compact layer of eosinophilic keratin without granular cell layer. There was no atypia, mitosis, or stromal invasion.
CONCLUSIONS: Although proliferating trichilemmal cyst shows benign histopathologic features, clinical manifestations may mimic those of more aggressive tumors with local recurrences or distant metastasis. Wide excision of the lesion and close long-term follow-up is recommended.
