Abstract
GRANULOSA CELL TUMOR IN A HEIFER: CLINICAL, ENDOCRINOLOGICAL AND POSTMORTEM OBSERVATIONS A benign granulosa cell tumor was diagnosed in a 19 month old Holstein heifer. Granulosa cell tumors are the most common of the ovarian tumors in cattle. This animal showed no signs of nymphomania or virilism. The principal clinical signs were anestrus and mammary gland hypertrophy. Diagnosis was made by transrectal exam and later confirmed by post-mortem examination. High levels of estrogen and testosterone were present in the plasma and might explain the clinical signs observed in this heifer. The endocrine changes associated with granulosa cell tumors and possible clinical approaches are briefly discussed.Entities:
