Abstract
Hepatitis B (HBV) reverse seroconversion is rare in HIV disease but can be fatal. We present a case series of 6 patients with reverse seroconversion and review 18 additional cases described in the literature. Elevated transaminases were seen in 13/21 (62%). Reverse seroconversion occurred more frequently in the setting of HIV virologic failure. Only 3 patients demonstrated reverse seroconversion in the setting of lamivudine or tenofovir withdrawal. 2/24 (8%) patients died from their HBV flare.Entities:
