Who uses and who provides orthodontic services?

H Barry Waldman1.

Abstract

In 2000, 5.8 million individuals spent $11.8 billion for orthodontic services. A review of reports by government and ADA agencies provides a demographic picture of: (1) those who receive the services (females more than males, whites more than members of minority groups, and the more affluent over lower income groups); (2) who provides the services (overwhelmingly, orthodontists); and (3) the anticipated continuance of white males as the majority representation among orthodontists.
