Subjects' economic status is based on a previous assessment by local authorities that reflected subjects' household rice production during the previous year as well as a qualitative assessment of their status. Because of incomplete data for some subjects, percentages for this characteristic are based on a sample of 984 men, 992 women, and 1976 total.
