Abstract
Echinococcosis, or hydatid disease, of the craniovertebral junction and skull base is rare. The authors report the occurrence of multiple hydatid cysts at this anatomical location in a young woman who was previously misdiagnosed with tuberculosis. The patient underwent transoral excision of the hydatid cysts followed by posterior decompression and occipitocervical fusion. She was treated postoperatively with albendazole for 12 weeks with a good outcome. The management of spinal hydatid disease is reviewed.Entities:
