Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Cardiac surgery, utilizing extracorporeal circulation, is associated with a heavy fluid load that may significantly depress haemoglobin concentration. Thus, considering haemoglobin alone may be an inaccurate method of replacing red cell volume loss.
