Abstract
Hypertension is frequently associated with oxidative stress caused by high production of reactive oxygen species and compromised antioxidant defenses. Humans with essential hypertension, with or without treatment, and controls were examined (35 hypertensive and 30 normotensive). We noted a discordant response of the glutathione and thioredoxin systems in essential hypertension and to antihypertensive treatment. Further studies examining the significance of these thiols in hypertension outcomes are warranted.Entities:
