Changes in the state operations manual: implications for consultant pharmacy practice.

Abstract

Long-term care facilities are subject to annual reviews by surveyors, who must follow regulations issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Recent revisions to the State Operations Manual, which provides guidance to the surveyors about how to conduct the review, signal important changes in the way consultant pharmacists will be held accountable for medication use in these facilities.
