Handling implicit and uncertain temporal information in medical text.

Abstract

We propose a method and a prototype system for discovering implicit temporal assertions in medical text and dealing with issues including temporal information resolution, temporal granularity, vagueness and uncertainty, by applying discourse analysis as well as semantic and syntactic analysis, and by generating heuristic rules which encode the discovered domain and linguistic knowledge.
