Salim M Abri1, Daniel J West, Robert J Spinelli.

Abstract

The health care system in Oman is facing a major challenge in managing escalating health care costs. One of the reasons for the dramatic increase in health care cost is overutilization. This article explores the problem of overutilization in Oman and its effect on sustaining the quality of health care. A review of the literature is used to develop a comprehensive model in controlling overutilization that is more applicable to the health system in Oman. Efforts to control costs and increase quality are discussed for possible implementation.
