Cemented femoral fixation: a historical footnote.

Michael E Berend1.

Abstract

Time will permit cemented stems to receive their proper footnote, as they have paved the way for uncemented stems, which are easier and more predictable to implant. Uncemented stems can be used for all occasions and by all surgeons, are available in many geometries and designs, and have proven durability in longterm studies. In addition, once uncemented stems are stable, they are unlikely to loosen.
