Abstract
Amyloid P component is a glycoprotein found in association with connective tissues throughout the body and is also a component of human serum. We have identified a dodecapeptide from amyloid P component which is capable of supporting the attachment of a wide variety of cells to the surface of polystyrene plastic dishes. 83% of the activity is confined to a hexapeptide, FTLCFR. Saturation of cell attachment occurs at a peptide concentration of 100 micrograms/ml used to coat the plastic. These results indicate that the active peptide may represent a functional property of amyloid P component which heretofore has no function.Entities:
