Living alone: the choice and health of older women.

Ching-Yu Cheng1.

Abstract

Contrary to the stereotype of being dependent and emotionally unstable, and unable to contribute to society, older women living alone are psychologically secure in their well-being and are happy about being independent. Nurses are encouraged to understand personal perceptions of older women when providing care for these individuals. Studies of diverse cultures and ethnicities are needed to build knowledge about older women living alone.
