Abstract
Many advances have occurred in the management of varices over the years. Guidelines based on sound evidence have been developed to manage the esophageal variceal hemorrhage. Less is known about how best to manage some of the more difficult cases of bleeding related to portal hypertension. This article reviews evidence in the hypertensive gastropathy, ectopic varices, and management of patients who are intolerant of or have not responded to beta-blocker therapy. The goal of this article is to review the sparse available evidence and to suggest reasonable management options.Entities:
