The origin of the ring current in the all-metal aromatic, Al(4)(2-).

Remco W A Havenith1, Patrick W Fowler.

Abstract

Apparent contradictions between ipsocentric, Nucleus-Independent Chemical Shift (NICS) and Gauge-Including Magnetically Induced Current (GIMIC) evaluations of ring current aromaticity in Al(4)(2-) are resolved in favour of the description of this all-metal system as sigma aromatic on the magnetic criterion.
