Plasma aldosterone response to low dose ACTH stimulation.

M G Nicholls, E A Espiner, R A Donald.

Abstract

The brief (60-min) infusion of a small amount (1.25 mug) of ACTH into 7 normal subjects on an unrestricted sodium intake resulted in a vigorous plasma aldosterone response in each case. This finding suggests that physiologic fluctuations in ACTH may significantly alter aldosterone secretion in normal man.
