Hypoglycemia-induced myocardial infarction: an unusual adverse effect of sulfonylureas.

Jen-Hung Chang, Chin-Feng Tseng, Jen-Yu Wang.

Abstract

Hypoglycemia is a significant problem of sulfonylureas treated diabetes. Although attention has focused on its neurologic consequence, the possibility of cardiovascular side effects should also be considered. A 77-year-old man presented with hypoglycemia-induced myocardial infarction with sulfonylureas therapy. We wish to report this unusual adverse effect of sulfonylureas and provide some reference for the clinicians who treat similar cases.
