[Cryoconservation and transplantation of ovarian cortical grafts in mammals].

Lucyna Katska-Ksiazkiewicz1.

Abstract

Laboratory research has been focused on methods of cryopreservation and transplantation of ovarian tissue from the 1950th. Recently such approach has been introduced to clinical practice leading to the livebirth as a result of successful autotransplantation of cryopreserved ovarian tissue which had been stored for 6 years. Therefore, the aim to restore ovarian activity finally was brought into application, what is especially important for patients faced with infertility or endocrine dysfunction due to cancer chemo- and radiotherapies. This review presents recent progress at cryoconservation, xeno- or autotransplantation, with hetero- or orthotopic localization of ovarian cortex grafts in mammals, especially in humans.
