The disparity between the numbers of vulnerable elderly disabled in Kentucky and the number of available long-term care beds.

Ngoc Huynh1, Forrest Hanke.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the increasing number of elderly and disabled people in Kentucky and the static number of long-term nursing home beds available. A comparison is made by using the 2000 US census data. The relationship between the number of patients at risk for long-term placement, the number of beds available, and the shift to home care-giving is explored.
