Abstract
The ciliated protozoa undergo an extensive genome reorganization during the course of forming a transcriptionally active macronucleus. The process includes numerous chromosome fragmentation and DNA breakage and rejoining events. Recent work indicates that transposable elements play a role in the process.Mesh:
