Fibrolamellar hepatocarcinoma: case report and review of the literature.

M Bârsu1.

Abstract

Fibrolamellar variant of hepatocellular carcinoma is a distinct clinicopathologic subset in the broad group of hepatocarcinomas. Though it is a rare entity, it must be well known because this variant occurs in young people and may have a better prognosis than the usual type of hepatocellular carcinomas. The authors present the light microscopic aspects in one case that allowed the diagnosis of fibrolamellar hepatocarcinoma, relating them to the ultrastructural characteristics of this variant, and comparing them with light and electron microscopic features of typical hepatocellular carcinomas.
