Abstract
Finely ground powders of synthetic hydroxyapatite applied to fibroblasts in vitro reduced the total growth rate and mitotic rate of the cells and increased the number of pycnotic cells. The effect was dose related and only occurred with small particles. The small particles appear to either adhere to the cells or are phagocytosed by them and the toxic effect may be physical rather than chemical.Entities:
