An approach to reducing disparities in breast cancer in the United States Virgin Islands.

Edith M Ramsay-Johnson1.

Abstract

Problems resulting in disparities in breast cancer detection and care are not limited to the mainland United States. A review of 2002 data reported by the CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System revealed similar concerns for women residing on the U.S. Virgin Islands. This report provides a summary of data highlighting trends associated with breast cancer detection and control in the U. S. Virgin Islands and a summary of efforts undertaken by faculty and students from the University of the Virgin Islands to address them.
