Abstract
A patient with AIDS presented with a fever, shortness of breath and a productive cough. A provisional diagnosis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia was made; however, blood cultures and bone marrow examination revealed disseminated infection with Histoplasmosis capsulatum. This was treated by itraconazole with initial success, but the patient relapsed while on maintenance therapy.Entities:
