Abstract
This a retrospective research which reviewed the files of 84 patients who underwent peritoneal dyalisis from July 1996 to July 2001. The aim was describing the causes which led those patients to drop out the dyalisis programme. The mean age of the group was 54.9 years old; 52.4% were male and 53.6% had proper sanitation conditions. The base pathologies of the group were Diabetes Mellitus (39.3%) and Systemic Arterial Hypertension (36.9%). The incidence of peritonitis was 53.6%, mainly during the first year (53.1%). The main reasons to leave the programme were death (66.7%), surgical complications (8.3%) and replacement of the kidney fuinction (8.3%).Entities:
