Abstract
The diagnosis of diaphragmatic laceration following blunt or penetrating trauma is often difficult to establish. Delay in recognition of this injury can be life threatening, resulting in herniation of abdominal viscera with possible strangulation or respiratory embarrassment. Previous animal studies from our institution have documented that intra-abdominal instillation of technetium sulfur colloid is a sensitive method to diagnose diaphragmatic disruption. We now present a case of diaphragmatic injury where the preoperative diagnosis was accurately made using this method when other imaging studies were inconclusive.Entities:
