Q fever as a cause of pure sensory polyneuropathy -- the six-year itch: a follow-up of an indigenous Swedish case.

Stefan Rustscheff1.

Abstract

Q fever is common worldwide but extremely rare as a cause of clinical disease in Sweden. Complications such as meningitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome are not uncommon. Chronic polyneuropathy caused by Q fever has until now never been reported in the English-speaking medical community. The first truly indigenous case of clinical Q fever in Sweden has previously been reported by us in this journal. The same patient also developed a pure sensory polyneuropathy.
