Dermatophytosis in Khammam (Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh, India).

Abstract

Clinically diagnosed 100 cases of dermatophytosis were examined and subjected to mycological study. Among them, 45 cases were positive by direct microscopy as well as by culture, 11 cases were positive only culture and 14 cases were positive by direct microscopic examination. The common clinical presentation was Taenia corporis in sixty cases. The commonest species encountered were Tricophyton rubrum in 42 cases (60%) and Tricophyton violaceum in 18 cases (26%). The prevalence of infection was more in males. Infection was more common in 21-30 years of age group. The incidence was more during the months of March to July in patients who were agricultural labourers living in rural areas.
