Abstract
In this chapter, oxidant-induced transferrin receptor-mediated iron-signaling and apoptosis are described in endothelial and neuronal cells exposed to oxidants. The role of nitric oxide in the regulation of iron homeostasis and oxidant-induced apoptosis is described. The interrelationship between oxidative stress, iron-signaling, and nitric oxide-dependent proteasomal function provides a rational mechanism that connects both oxidative and nitrative modifications.Entities:
