Pressure ulcer risk in the peri-operative environment.

Abstract

Every patient attending the operating theatre will at some stage be at risk of developing a pressure ulcer. Some of the important issues associated with pressure ulcer risk in the peri-operative environment are discussed. There are gaps in the knowledge base and a need for further research. These factors should be taken into account by peri-operative nurses in the care of surgical patients.
