Abstract

CLINICAL CASE: A 46-year-old man, treated with peginterferon alpha 2-b and ribavirin for hepatitis C, experienced progressive painless blurring of vision in his left eye over a period of 4 days. Fundoscopy revealed pale temporal segmental edema of the optic disc and retina. Ocular examination and blood tests ruled out other disorders which could explain the visual disturbance. DISCUSSION: The patient was diagnosed with an ischemic neuroretinopathy associated with interferon but, due to a favourable visual outcome, the treatment was not discontinued.
