Abstract
BACKGROUND: Characterization of molecular markers and the development of better assays for precise and rapid detection of wildlife species are always in demand. This study describes a set of seven novel heminested PCR assays using specific primers designed based on species-specific polymorphism at the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene for identification of Blackbuck, Goral, Nilgai, Hog deer, Chital, Sambar and Thamin deer.Entities:

Figure 2Species-specific profiles of designed heminested PCR assay. M indicates 100 bp ladders. Higher molecular weight amplicons were amplified for all the species with universal 16s rRNA primers. In 2nd PCR only target species have generated species-species amplicons with specific primers. Lane 14 of both the gel contains negative controls.
