Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine if probiotics reduce epithelial injury following exposure to Escherichia coli O157:H7 and E. coli O127:H6. The pretreatment of intestinal (T84) cells with lactic acid-producing bacteria reduced the pathogen-induced drop in transepithelial electrical resistance. These findings demonstrate that probiotics prevent epithelial injury induced by attaching-effacing bacteria.Entities:
