Abstract
Nine patients with severely atrophic edentulous mandibles were treated by distraction osteogenesis with subperiosteal distractors for vertical augmentation of the anterior alveolar bone before insertion of implants. All the patients had severe complications and we conclude that the use of subperiosteal devices for vertical augmentation of edentulous mandibles is hazardous and offers no advantage over other surgical methods.Entities:
