Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To explore the features of hearing changes in patients with renal insufficiency treated with hemodialysis.
METHOD: Forty-nine patients with chronic renal failure ongoing hemodialysis and 66 normal controllers were enrolled in this study. RESULT: The changes of the averaged hearing thresholds of high frequency for hemodialysis subgroup were similar to those of the control group, but the impairment of the hearing was more severe. Compared with the control group, there was significant statistically differences in every age segments.
CONCLUSION: The hearing impairment in patients with chronic renal failure treated with hemodialysis is characteristic by decreased in high frequency portion.
