[Pneumothorax as a complication of chronic necrotizing pulmonary aspergillosis].

H C J van Klink1, J Stolk.

Abstract

A 65-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who had frequently been treated with prednisone for recurrent exacerbations was admitted to hospital with a pneumothorax. This proved to be a complication of a chronic necrotizing pulmonary aspergillosis. Despite maximal therapy the patient died 15 months after diagnosis from total respiratory insufficiency, the end stage of the bullous emphysema.
