Abstract
Phosphatidylcholine is a prominent constituent of eukaryotic and some prokaryotic membranes. This Perspective focuses on the two enzymes that regulate its biosynthesis, choline kinase and CTP:phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase. These enzymes are discussed with respect to their molecular properties, isoforms, enzymatic activities, and structures, and the possible molecular mechanisms by which they participate in regulation of phosphatidylcholine levels in the cell.Entities:
