Derangement of the articular surfaces of the elbow in young gymnasts.

N Maffulli1, D Chan, M J Aldridge.

Abstract

We report the long-term follow-up of lesions of the articular surface of the elbow joint in a group of 12 young gymnasts. There was a high incidence of osteochondritic lesions, intraarticular loose bodies, and precocious signs of joint aging. The prognosis of elbow joint articular surface lesions in these athletes is not good, with only one athlete being able to continue high-level activity at maturity.
