Quality of life in kleptomania and pathological gambling.

Jon E Grant1, Suck Won Kim.

Abstract

The current study was constructed to examine the similarities and differences in the quality of life of patients with kleptomania and pathological gambling (PG). Thirty patients with kleptomania, 43 with PG, and 30 normal control subjects were assessed with the Quality of Life Inventory that assesses self-reported satisfaction with life. Both patients with kleptomania and PG had significantly lower quality of life scores than normal control subjects ( t = 7.32; df = 58; P < .001; t = 7.32; df = 71; P < .001, respectively). These results suggest that patients with kleptomania and pathological gamblers have notably poor quality of life.
